We are delighted to let you know that the findings of the Why Test study relating to patient safety have just been published in the BMJ Open Quality.  Please find below a link to the publication:

Patient safety in actioning and communicating blood test results in primary care: a UK wide audit using the Primary care Academic CollaboraTive (PACT) | BMJ Open Quality

For a summary of the findings, check out this article by NIHR Applied Research Collaboration West, which explains that the study shows how patient safety could be enhanced through blood test management.

Huge congratulations to Jess Watson, the Why Test team and all the PACT members who contributed to this superb achievement!  Below are some quotes from Jess, leader of the Why Test study and Chair of PACT:

“Over 100 million blood tests are ordered by GPs in England every year. Patients who have a blood test need to know what the results show and what to do next.”

“Our findings suggest that whilst many practices have robust systems in place, there is scope for further quality improvement to ensure test results are communicated and actioned appropriately.”

“This study also has important implications for researchers, demonstrating the success of the PACT model, which opens up opportunities for future collaborative PACT research projects in primary care.”
